The hulu, or gourd, is a long-loved good-fortune motif in Chinese jade carving. Its name sounds like fu lu, meaning blessings and prosperity, and its many seeds stand for abundance and a flourishing family. In folk tradition the gourd is also said to protect its wearer from harm and keep illness away.

Each hulu pendant here is Type A, untreated Burmese jadeite, set in 18k gold or sterling silver, or worn as jade only. It makes a warm gift for a new home, a growing family, or a wish for good health.
